Ideal applications for floating shelf brackets
- Pro Builds: These heavy-duty brackets are designed for contractors and cabinet shops who need strong, reliable floating shelf support that won’t sag, flex, or fail.
- Custom Projects: Aksel floating shelf brackets handle it all—live edge slabs, solid hardwood, hollow-core styles—you build it, they back it.
- Modern Interiors: Get the clean, hardware-free floating shelf look your clients want, with the hidden support they’ll never see coming.
Support you don’t have to see to trust.
Aksel brackets mount flush to the wall and disappear completely inside the shelf. No visible brackets. No awkward angle irons. Just crisp lines, true level, and the kind of install you’d show off in your portfolio.
Aksel HD Floating Shelf Bracket
- The original heavyweight. For shelves 2" to 3" thick and 8" to 14" deep, Aksel HD supports up to 100 lbs per stud when properly installed into wood studs or blocking.
- The gold standard for larger floating shelf builds and solid hardwood runs.
Aksel MD Floating Shelf Bracket
- Strength in a slim profile. Sized for shelves 1 ½" to 2" thick and up to 12" deep, Aksel MD supports up to 75 lbs per stud.
- The go-to for mid-sized shelving that still needs serious performance.
Aksel LD Floating Shelf Bracket
- Low clearance. High confidence. Perfect for shallow shelves and tight wall conditions, the LD is our slimmest hidden shelf support.
- Built for clean installs where space is tight and aesthetics matter.
Aksel Hollow Core Brackets (HD + MD)
- Purpose-built for hollow core floating shelves. Designed specifically for hollow-core shelf construction, these brackets are made to integrate seamlessly into CNC-cut, miter-folded builds.
- Available in HD or MD to match your shelf dimensions, they offer reliable, hidden support for fast, precise installs — no visible hardware, no unnecessary fuss.
Floating Shelf Bracket FAQ
How much weight can Aksel floating shelf brackets hold?
Capacity varies by series and scales with rod count. At the per-rod level: Aksel LD supports up to 50 lbs, MD up to 65 lbs, HD up to 80 lbs, and XD up to 95 lbs. Hollow Core brackets are rated up to 90 lbs per hollow rod. Because total capacity multiplies by the number of rods in the bracket, a 3-rod HD bracket supports up to 240 lbs total. All ratings require correct installation into studs or blocking — drywall alone cannot be the primary anchor.
How do Aksel floating shelf brackets install?
Installation happens in two stages: wall mounting, then shelf mounting. Hold the bracket level against the wall and mark every fastener hole location. Fasten into all studs and blocking the bracket crosses using the included truss head fasteners. Between studs, predrill with a ¼" bit, install drywall anchors, and secure with pan head fasteners. Once the bracket is confirmed level and secure, slide the shelf slab over the rods. For 2-rod brackets, apply silicone to the rods before sliding the shelf on to prevent slippage.

How many floating shelf brackets do I need?
One bracket per shelf. Each Aksel bracket is a single back bar sized to the full length of your shelf — rod count is built in and scales automatically with bar length:
- Up to 36" shelf: 2-rod bracket
- 36"–52" shelf: 3-rod bracket
- 52"–72" shelf: 4-rod bracket
- 72" and longer: 5-rod bracket
For a wall with multiple shelves at different heights, you need one bracket per shelf. See the spec sheet for your chosen series for the full length-to-rod-count table.
How deep do floating shelf brackets need to be?
Each Aksel series is engineered for a specific shelf depth range:
- Aksel LD: 5"–8" deep
- Aksel MD: 7"–10" deep
- Aksel HD: 7"–14" deep
- Aksel XD: up to 17" deep
Custom rod lengths are available for shelves shallower than the standard range. As a rule, rods should run about 1½" shorter than your shelf depth — a 10" deep shelf takes roughly 8½" rods — so the tip doesn't reach the front edge. Download the spec sheet for your series to confirm the right rod length for your build.

How do floating shelf brackets stay hidden?
Aksel brackets are designed to disappear inside the shelf rather than attach to its face. The bracket mounts flush to the wall, and the shelf slides over the steel rods — completely enclosing the hardware. From the front, you see only the shelf: no mounting plate, no exposed screws, no visible hardware of any kind. The rods seat into drilled or milled channels in the back of the shelf board, so once the shelf is on, the bracket is gone. That's what makes the floating look structural rather than cosmetic.
