December isn’t just about twinkle lights, endless cookie trays, and Mariah Carey making her annual comeback. It’s about coming home. Slowing down. Getting cozy. Reconnecting with the people and spaces that matter most.
It’s also a time to look back at the year you’ve lived and the memories you’ve made. Around here, we believe the best way to honor those moments is to put them on display. After all, every shelf tells a story.
And who better to prove it than the Shelfologists themselves? We design, engineer, and obsess over shelves all year long—but when it comes to our own homes, we’re just like you: looking for ways to create spaces that feel personal, joyful, and totally us. Here’s how a few of our team members are styling and storytelling on their shelves this season.
Meet the Shelfologists: shelves, stories, and seasonal vibes.

“When I installed my Fat Lippies in the office, I wanted more than just storage—I wanted a story wall. Inspired by my late aunt, who filled her space with layered memories and milestones, I set out to do the same. Each shelf holds a mix of moments that matter: travel photos, degrees, greenery, and snapshots of life with my husband—and room for photos of our future family.”

“Our family room shelves are a focal point of the house. With grown-up kids flying the nest, I use my shelves to display holiday pictures from times past and highlight accomplishments from this busy time of life. There’s an inherited record collection, a bust from a trip to Greece, and a little teapot given to me by the kindest person I’ve ever met. It’s not about the perfect look—it’s the story of our life.”

“My shelves start with an evergreen base—plants, vintage boxes, and natural textures. Then I layer in snapshots from recent travels, favorite books, and seasonal touches that shift with the months. This winter’s story is extra personal: adventures with my husband, mementos from home projects, and reminders that our next big adventure—a baby girl—is just around the corner.”

“I love transforming my space by thoughtfully arranging my favorite books on my shelves, their colorful spines creating a cozy backdrop. Nearby, I neatly organize baskets brimming with my crafting supplies, ready to spark creativity. To make the space unique, I showcase my sister’s vibrant paintings and her cherished rock collection, each piece adding a burst of personality. I pin photos and heartfelt letters to my whiteboard, evoking warm memories with every glance. While my shelves hold treasures of sentimental value, they’re also practical—my desk serves as a hub for schoolwork, crafting, and drawing, while my whiteboard keeps my notes and reminders in clear view. To top it all off, I weave in a touch of magic and sparkle, infusing the space with holiday cheer that makes it feel truly enchanting.”

“Our shelves tell our story—this season, it’s one of new beginnings. As we get ready to welcome baby number two, we’ve been nesting in our own corner of the house. A few plants, some seasonal decor, and photos that remind us what matters most—each piece helps this shared space feel like home.”

“A spot on my shelves must be earned with a story. Trinkets from a German Christmas market, treasures foraged in nature, vintage scores, and family heirlooms—each piece marks another page in my story. The collection brings the room to life.”
Displaying is celebrating.
Here's the thing: decorating shelves isn’t just about looks. It’s about celebrating the people, places, and moments that shape you. Your shelves aren’t just storage—they’re storyboards that remind you who you’ve been, what you’ve loved, and where you’re going next.
At Shelfology, that’s why we do what we do. We build killer brackets and shelves—engineered in the U.S. from real wood and heavy-gauge steel—to help you create spaces that tell stories, display treasures, honor memories, and organize the stuff of life.
What story will your shelves tell?
This season, take a moment to look at your own shelves. Are they reflecting your year? Are they celebrating the people and moments you love most? Whether you’re polishing off a project, refreshing a favorite corner, or just adding one new piece that makes you smile, display is the simplest way to make your home feel like yours.
So, here’s our challenge: add something new, swap something out, or give your shelves a little extra love before the year is up. You’ll be amazed at how a simple refresh can change the whole vibe of your space.
