Why Randle Handle?
Play is essential to children’s health, growth, and creativity, and is necessary for learning life skills, and learning to work together. At Shelfology, we believe that hard work should be balanced with a healthy heaping dose of fun. With our bold bright color choices and super strong shelves, we’ve made thousands of great spaces where individual style, enjoyment, and beauty reign supreme. When grOH! Playrooms approached us with an idea to recreate the traditional monkey bar, we were on board immediately. Their expert-level understanding of how and why kids play, and how to design spaces that encourage imagination is truly inspiring. Our creative teams are fueled by new ideas and were pumped to bring a new wall climbing handle design to market that would merge all the factors we stoke on the most: color, strength, inspiration, creativity, and play!
Safety and Strength
You provide the monkeys, we provide the bars. Yep, imagine monkey bars in any playroom or fun space. But how do we keep those little rascals safe? Our product development team was on it!
“A driving goal behind the current Randle Monkey Bar redesign was safety. Those of us on this project were well aware of how rowdy kids can get, and how important it would be to have absolute confidence in the full capability of this product. It had to be robust, but still look fun and simple. We figured, “If it will hold a Marketing Associate, it will hold a child.” Marketing Associates are not the most disposable test subjects, just the most willing to participate.
We discovered too much deflection (movement) in the initial design, which over time could lead to a wobbly, unstable platform. Adding 2 additional anchor points on a vertical axis allowed the monkey bar to remain much more solid under stress and doubled the bar’s resistance to pulling out of any surface. Marketing Associates are just as precious as children, and we have established a design that we can trust to both, relatively unsupervised.”
